Do you hear that?
It’s the sound of audiobooks, podcasts, and other forms of audio-based content sharing dominating our airwaves (and eardrums!). I recently moved much closer to the Smith Publicity office and have found myself dearly missing the time I would spend listening to a new
book—celebrity memoirs are always my favorite when it comes to audiobooks—on my previous hour+ commutes. But with the summer sunshine often comes those road trips to the beach, flights to somewhere exotic and new, or long walks in the evening, offering plenty of opportunity for all of us to listen-in.
And I know I’m not the first to tell you that those of us in the world of publishing aren’t the only ones voraciously consuming audio content. Just last month, PW reported that U.S. audiobook sales hit $2 billion in 2023, with over 50% of U.S. adults sharing they’ve listened to an audiobook. I think it’s safe to say audiobooks – and their equally popular cousin, podcasts – are here to stay. So
with those numbers and our excitement around how we’ll continue to lean in to these formats in our publicity and marketing strategies here at Smith Publicity, we’re excited to share the great content from last month that focused on the wide world of audio content.
